The SCERTS® Model is a multidimensional therapeutic approach designed to improve communication and social-emotional skills and abilities in a naturalistic, social environment. The approach focuses on addressing key challenges in individuals with ASD and/or developmental delays and disabilities and providing opportunities to learn strategies to effectively communicate and regulate emotional states independently. A stand out quality of the SCERTS® Model is its recognition that most learning occurs during everyday routines and interactions; rather than emphasizing isolated intervention, the model focuses on supporting the child’s development in social communication and emotional regulation skills in a variety of social contexts.

The SCERTS® Model was developed by: Dr. Barry M. Prizant, Ph.D, CCC-SLP; Amy M. Weatherby Ph.D., CCC-SLP; Emily Rubin, MS, CCC-SLP; and Amy C. Laurent, Ph.D., CCC-SLP

The SCERTS® Model acronym is made of three components: Social Communication, Emotional Regulation, and Transactional Support.

At KidSpeak, LLC we utilize the SCERTS® Model within all of our individual and group therapy sessions.
